Glory of St. Florian

17th/18th century
Fresco
St. Florian's Chapel, St. Florian Abbey, Austria

On the left St. Florian rises to Heaven on a cloud accompanied by an angel, who may be the artist's interpretation of the eagle that Christ had sent to guard the saint's body. In the center we see Christ posed as in Resurrection images, clad in a loose sheet and welcoming the stone weight that had been used to drown the saint. On the right an angel pours water from a bucket to extinguish a fire at St. Florian's Abbey.
